Voice-over is a tool used in filmmaking. A voice-over is a form of narration used to provide exposition or the thoughts of an off-screen character. Voice-overs are used in motion pictures, documentaries, television programmes and commercials. Voice-overs are also used as a translation tool in filmed interviews; this is also known as dub localisation. Where an interpreter would translate what is being said in one language for an audience that speaks another language, the voice-over does the same job for those watching a film or filmed interview.
