Entertainment is a broad term used to describe something that is designed to entertain. Modes of entertainment range from film and television to concerts, plays and other events put on to entertain an audience. Although we instinctively associate entertainment with making an audience laugh, cheer or applaud, there are many genres – tragedy, drama or horror films, for example – that also fall under the category of entertainment. What the people of a particular culture, time period, age group or social class consider entertaining provides great insight into what they are like.
