An editor is someone whose job it is to edit content. This may be the content of a book, newspaper article, blog, translation, website, magazine or press release. An editor may be charged with shortening, improving or refining a piece of written work – in terms of word choice, regional variations in language, style, grammar and punctuation or register – in order to tailor it to a specific medium or target audience. An editor may work on paper using a standardised set of correction symbols or using common word processing software.
