Colin Rae sees his role as key account manager as a partnership with his customers – not only in terms of project management, but also in editing and translating their copy. Colin feels that each of these different skillsets informs the other – understanding customers’ organisational and linguistic needs makes him a better editor, translator and manager.

Colin is no stranger to this fast-paced juggling act. Back in 2006, he began to build up and manage his own client base, editing and translating for clients specialising in film and television, art and publishing.
Being a one-man show gave Colin the tools he still uses every day, teaching him how to accommodate the needs of many different clients while always delivering on time, on message and on quality.
This network grew and in 2011 took on a new partner: Burton, Van Iersel & Whitney GmbH – a name synonymous with quality copy. Colin joined BVIW full time in 2013 and still feels that being asked to write copy worth reading every day is one of the best jobs there is.
Colin was born in the south of Scotland and studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art. This opened up the chance to travel to and work in many places around the world, including Germany. In 2003, Colin settled in Munich, where he and his German wife are raising their son to be fluent in both German and English. When not at his desk or at the playground, you’re most likely to find Colin in the kitchen, where – being from the UK – his specialty is of course curry.
